RESIDUAL is a 93-minute award-winning documentary focusing on how stress, anxiety, cumulative trauma and PTSD are affecting our nation's police officers, firefighters, EMT personnel and other first responders. The story is told exclusively by former and current first responders, their families, medical professionals, psychologists, and therapists.
RESIDUAL has been designed for anyone unfamiliar with post-traumatic stress, PTSI or PTSD, and for people who simply want, or need, to know more about this growing issue. The film gives viewers a broad understanding of what first responders experience on the job and describes how cumulative stress can build over many years before finally affecting an individual. In the documentary, first responders also describe the debilitating symptoms that can haunt them for years.
RESIDUAL then educates viewers about the chemical reactions that occur in the brain during a traumatic experience and how these reactions can be successfully treated through a variety of medical, psychological, and holistic modalities. Scientifically tested and proven treatments and therapies are presented along with contact information for resources.
Finally, the film explains how PTSD does not need to be a death sentence. With the right treatment plan, first responders can continue in their careers, prosper in their relationships, and live long and healthy lives.
Achieving Post-Traumatic Growth is 48-minute documentary focusing on the recovery process from post-traumatic stress. It has been designed for first responders and family members who are already dealing with symptoms of PTS.
RESIDUAL contains emotional testimonials and graphic images that may be triggering to some who are already experiencing post-traumatic stress or those in recovery from PTSD.
As a positive alternative, Achieving Post-Traumatic Growth delivers helpful and informative content less likely to trigger a trauma response, a focus on what effectively works to address trauma symptoms, and a consistently hopeful and empowering message for the future.
A slightly shorter, 79-minute version of RESIDUAL: Cumulative Trauma and PTSD in First Responders. This version is intended to be shown at law enforcement and fire academies as well as any public showings. Some comments have been trimmed and a few treatment segments removed, but the overall impact is still very powerful and informative.
This documentary explores the mental health struggles of firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical technicians
in a small New England town. The 73-minute film features Keith Hanks and stories from many other first responders.

Post-traumatic stress (PTS) among our veterans is a serious problem with over 20 veterans a day taking their lives by suicide. And just like veterans; firefighters, police officers, and other first responders not only deal with PTS, but they also have very high suicide rates. Most are given prescription drugs but as many have said, medication is just a band-aid over a wound that will never heal.
Our heroes deserve more than just a band-aid and so director/producer Michael Gier went on a mission and found successful alternative treatments that give anyone battling PTS their lives back. Produced by Gier Productions, this award-winning film gives HOPE and literally saves lives.

From the beginning of war, those thrust onto the field of battle have gone through their own levels of mental trauma. ACRONYM takes an in-depth and personal look at those who are experiencing, suffering from and living with post-traumatic stress or PTSD. The film examines the common bond these brave veterans share: the demons that only war can bring.
ACRONYM features extensive interviews with veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf Wars I and II, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan.
For some WWII veterans, they are only now dealing with their PTSD; some 70 years after serving. These are stories that must be told, and ACRONYM is an incredibly touching portrayal of life with PTSD.
The film also presents different treatment options, both traditional methods and promising non-traditional techniques. And finally, after documenting the triumphs, struggles, heartbreak and sacrifice of our veterans and their families; ACRONYM looks ahead with hope.
